Sense & Sensibility

I never knew how wonderful this story was until I saw the new BBC version...
It has so much more to it than is eluded in the 1995 version with Kate Winslet.
"It isn't what we say or think that defines us, but what we do." ... Marianne says in referring to Colonel Brandon's honorable behavior.
And this is how she determines that he is the true romantic.
I agree!
And now I'm determined that I must read this book.

Stories like this inspire me to be more... sensible.
Maybe a little more honorable.
Perhaps a little less of a witch. haha.

Great Grandma Rula and I are on a roll. We've watched "Anne of Green Gables" (of which was divinely wonderfly) and now "Sense and Sensibility". I must say, I'm dead and gone to heaven participating in such activities as these and to share them with Grandma Rula is quite a treat.

In the queue:

"Our Mutual Friend"
"The Inheritance"
"Sabrina" with Audery Hepburn
"The Ultimate Gift"
"An Ideal Husband"
"The Importance of Being Earnest"

Thanks Riki

And I REALLY must get my hands on a copy of "Cranford".

You need to add North and South to your queue. My favorite movie ever! It's a drama with a beautiful love story mixed in. Enjoy your movies.

I"ve seen all the movies on your list and all very excellent picks. I agree with angie, though, you must add north and south to the list. Also, I loved Cranford. Two of my most favorite quotes, "The notion that the earth is round makes me giddy." and "Women are not just equal to men, they are their superiors in every way!" You must watch the latest version of Jayne Eyre too and read the book if you haven't. Oh there's so much more we could discuss!!! :-) Are you going to the reunion in Ione?

The book is so much better than the movie, expecially the part where Willouby comes back after the dumpage to explain to Elinor! Awesome!

I'm going to say add "Little Dorrit" to your list as well (a dickens like "our Mutual Friend") with our lovely Mr. Darcy from the Kiera Knightley version...enjoy!

I actually have seen North and South and I am deathly in love with it and Jane Eyre is my all time TOP and is the only classic I have read to date. (Tried Persuasion but couldn't get through it. Perhaps I will try again.) I will most definitely add Little Dorrit.
Until this new version of 'Sense' I had no idea Willoughby ever came back which confirmed my suspicions that I am utterly missing out on lots of goodies in the books.

Definitely going to the Ione Reunion. Hope to see you all there.

You're making me want my movies back so I can watch them again! So glad you loved this version of "S&S." I love Edward's proposal scene - my fave.

Awesome! I need someone to watch these with. It's not as fun watching them alone. You can't discuss... know what I mean? Sense & Sensibility is up on my top books. I haven't seen that movie. I must see it!

I didn't know there was a new S&S!?! It's on my list for this weekend. The Importance of Being Ernest is very good and so is Cranford. I have that movie and you're welcome to borrow it (it's pirated...I hope that doesn't offend you...) I'm reading North and South right now. I need to watch that movie and soon. I find that watching the movie first makes the book so much more enjoyable. Fun!

I love Anna green gables and anne of avalon!! My mom watch those together about every 3-4 years, its our tradition. We curl up in blankets on a cold and rainy day and lay in bed for 8 hours straight adoring over how wonderful it would be to live in a place like that, and of course the romance that Anne and Gill share throught the movies Doesnt get much better than that!! (my favorite part is when he cales her carrot!) ha ha
