Educational Book Club

I love book club. It's very educational. For instance, last night I learned how not to stalk Rob Lowe.
This month we're reading either Wicked or P&P (Pride & Prejudice). Oh how I do hope for P&P. I really don't want to give up my English accent yet. Thithermore, I would like to presume the taskability of forming sentences with made up words that for certain these old classic novels contain... therein.
The refreshments counter thus had to photographed for it's picturesqueness (which happens to be a real word, bytheway). And furthermore, Dacia, I do not eat fruit because it's healthy. I eat it because it's eye-candy, for one, meaning beautiful, it's fresh, and because I get to dip it in sweetened condensed milk, cream cheese, and whipped cream all together. (which is undoubtedly the best fruit dip ever).
We shall leave the evening with a Jane Eyre quote:

Appearance should not be mistaken for truth; narrow human doctrines, that only tend to elate and magnify a few, should not be substituted for the world-redeeming creed of Christ. There is — I repeat it — a difference; and it is a good, and not a bad action to mark broadly and clearly the line of separation between them. The world may not like to see these ideas dissevered, for it has been accustomed to blend them; finding it convenient to make external show pass for sterling worth — to let white-washed walls vouch for clean shrines. It may hate him who dares to scrutinise and expose — to rase the gilding, and show base metal under it — to penetrate the sepulchre, and reveal charnel relics: but hate as it will, it is indebted to him.

--Preface (2nd Edition)

Magnificent!

You do not want to read Wicked... I repeat, do not... It's probably rated PG-13 and possible even R. It's not a cute, fun, LDS book. I think your whole book club would be embarrassed. Just had to warn you.
Will you do the treat table at our book club please? mmmmm

Good to know about Wicked...guess that's out, huh, Marie? Refreshments were delish, by the way. And we have way too much fun at book club. Love it.

I've haven't read Jane Eyre or P&P.
Can we still be friends?

I'm reading A Tree Grows in Brooklyn now. Those books have to have more of a plot than this one, right? Maybe I should read one when I finish A Tree... Which one?

I read Wicked. It IS weird. But not AS weird as everyone made it out to be. There are DEFINITELY weird sex things. Poor Wicked Witch, she's just so misunderstood.

Hm, I suppose we can still be friends...
I haven't read P&P yet but I sobbed reading Jane Eyre.
My suggested sequence... watch the movie, read the book, watch the movie again (only the good parts for it is 3 1/2 hours long). Watching the movie first helped me understand the book which was, let's face it, taxing on my simple mind. And I'm convinced there is no better Mr. Rochester out there than the Toby Stephens that plays him. Am I admitting that I have a slight infatuation with him? Yes I am. Witty, tormented, rugged soul.

I haven't read Wicked, but I have heard from many that it is awful, as in "I literally threw it away and never finished it" awful. I still need to see the Jane Eyre movie. Hearing you talk about it makes me want to read the book all over again!

P.S. Sometimes when I was alone I used to read it out loud with a British accent...lame, I know, but Jane just speaks so beautifully! It's the former drama geek in me...I cna't help it!
